granted i have hyperinsulinemia, so i keep starches and sugars to a minumum (under 60 grams/day of carb, most from non-starchy veg and a very small amt of brown rice usually, and low sugar fruits like rasp and blueberries), but fats like beef fat, coconut fat, butter, and olive oil don't make me hungry like sguar and starch do, they even out my blood sugar so i don't have uncontrollable hunger.
i wonder if their study only looked at diets that were very high in starch and sguar (i'd guess probably, since that's the basis of the standard american diet) and the effect is a high carb plus high fat diet, rather than just a high fat diet.
i get really frustrated when ppl suggest i cut back on salt because i'm fat -- despite my dr telling me to have enough salt/day to keep my blood pressure up in safe limits (with ~2 tsps of salt/day, my bp ranges from 95/55 to 110/70). but many ppl seem think fat=high blood pressure and don't even ask.
This is true. But I read a research study somewhere or other years ago, that found that people who have a genetic predisposition to higher body fat, don't usually have high blood pressure. Not to imply that you do:) That was very interesting. I don't have the link anymore, that was four computers ago. But it does indicate a rather complicated issue.
I've also read research about a virus that more heavy people have than thin ones. The study claims the virus makes changes to the way the body deposits adipose tissue. Which makes sense to me. If a virus can affect the CNS like Lyme and West Nile, why can't one affect other areas? People are very close minded about extra pounds. They think over weight people sit around stuffing their faces all day. But I happen to know different.
It's stereotype and prejudice, just like any other. It doesn't matter how much information is available that refutes their belief, the unreasonably believe myths and fables instead.
