Keep in mind that the quality of a GP is dependent on: - training - requirements for further education: some states don't require a provider to get continuing education post-college graduation to be licensed or recertified as continuing to hold a license, although many board certification societies do, as do some hospitals - provider's willingness to be further educated and open to what patient is saying - patient's willingness to be honest, detailed, and determined to work with said practitioner, even if it means paying for another appointment or going to someone else - and whether or not the GP believes in trying to solve everything themselves or is willing to recommend specialists
Nothing frustrates me more than a GP who isn't willing to say, "Look, I'm not sure what's going on, let me send you to someone better qualified than I." Equally frustrating to me is a patient who won't say, "I have [these symptoms]" because they're embarrassing, involve "private parts", or [insert reason of the day]." I've had to tell my GP not to prescribe me drugs because I know if he/she does, I'll be right back in their office in two weeks still sick. I've had GPs tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. They haven't stayed my GP long as a result. A lot of people won't do that, and won't suggest to their doctors that maybe stuff is connected.
